MICT, BIC support Sports Day

Manama, Jan. 16 (BNA): Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Bahrain Sports Day Abdulrahman Sadeq Askar admired the supporting initiatives of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (MICT), and the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), for the 2019 edition of the Bahrain Sports Day, scheduled for February 12. The Ministry decided to provide discounted rates on sports supplies for all participants during this year’s event, while the BIC has stepped forward to offer its hosting women’s sports activities on the day. This was announced during the third meeting of the Organizing Committee of the Third Bahrain Sports Day, attended by Askar, during which many topics were discussed on the agenda, such as an e-system to calculate the steps of the participants in the walking race. Askar was briefed on the mechanism required to provide the application of this firs of its kind idea. In regard to creating mini sports villages in all of Bahrain’s four governorates, Dr. Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, member of the Organising Committee, said the proposed sports games such as athletics featuring hurdles, 100 metres relay, 50 meters, discus throwand other contests will be open for all age groups. He noted the possibility of using alternative sports tools in addition to the 3km walking race, adding that the activities are set for 3.30pm kick off. Shaikh Saqer also mentioned that 80 members of the General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force have been requested, with each governorate having 20 people to provide assistance in organizing the events. In addition, there is cooperation with the governorates to promote the activities in various means of advertising. Dr. Nabil Taha, Chairman of the Awareness Activities Committee, briefly reviewed the concept of application, which aims at continuity of physical activity through calculating the number of steps of each individual and then collecting the steps in all its ministries and bodies. Nawaf Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Information Technology Committee, said reading the application and the number of calories burned have been reviewed in addition to classification by sectors, ministries and others. Late on, a presentation of the latest developments on the website were reviewed. On his part, member of the Organising Committee Rashid Abdul Latif Al Zayani talked about the events that will be staged at the International Women's Arena, including cycling, marathon and walking race for women from 3 to 6 pm on Bahrain Sports Day. The will also be an autocross and karting competitions outside the circuit and is open for everyone. Lounes Madene then reviewed a model of the sports activities to be held at the sports village behind the National Stadium in Riffa, while Maryam Boukmal reviewed a short film to promote the importance of walking10,000 steps as a healthy lifestyle. In this regard, the organisers will contact representative of the Ministry of Health and the University of Bahrain to provide medical and sports information as a positive addition to this promotion.
