Mohd Ali Suffers Bloody Loss To Jae Yoon In AFC

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The 2017 KL SEA Games gold medallist, Mohd Ali Yaakub suffered bloody injury before losing to South Korean Deok Jae Yoon in the Asia Fighting Championship (AFC) Muay Thai tournament, Friday night. Though he fought till the last round (Round 3) in the 57kg category, the 31-year-old was unable to match the speed of Jae Yoon and suffered 28-29, 27-30, 28-29 defeat in the main event at the Axiata Arena here. The Korean kick boxer put up fast punches right from the first round, while Mohd Ali was playing calm, before the fight turned violent in the second round as the their faces smeared with blood. The last three minutes of the fight turned intense as the crowd started to chant "Ali! Ali! Ali!" as the Besut-born exponent nursed his head injuries before resuming the bout a about a minute later. “I want to apologise to the audience for letting them down. I have given my best, but it was just not good enough for me to claim victory. “Indeed, he (Jae Yoon) had the advantage because he is taller than me. I have to go to the hospital after this, I may need two stitches on the head,” he told Bernama after the fight. In the inaugural edition of AFC in Singapore last year, Mohd Ali knocked out (KO) Ralf Sarol Francisco of the Philippines. Meanwhile, compariot Mohd Amirul Ariffin lost to Singapore's 23-year-old starlet Bardon Ng in another main event. He lost through unanimous decision with 27-30, 27-30, 27-30 in the 66kg category. However, it was a double delight for Mohd Fazzatkie Zaki when he defeated the SEA Games bronze medallist, Vo Van Dai of Vietnam 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 in the 63kg category in the side event. Thursday, the 19-year-old Terengganu lad claimed the 2018 Perak Malaysian Games (Sukma) gold medal after defeating T. Kabilan Jelevan of Sarawak.
