Molinari Brothers To Feature In Maybank Malaysian Open 2014

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Former World Cup winners, Edoardo and Francesco Molinari of Italy will feature in the 2014 Maybank Malaysian Open 2014. The duo, who won the 2009 Golf World Cup - their nation's first ever triumph in the tournament - will tee off at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club here alongside the stars of the Asian Tour and European Tour from April 17 to 20 in the US$2.75 million tournament. Edoardo, 33, who is two years older, has won professional tournaments on four continents – Europe, South America, Africa and Asia - and was runner-up at last year's Malaysian Open, according to a statement from the event organiser Sunday. The brothers have also played in and won the Ryder Cup, with Francesco sinking the winning putt which won Europe the trophy in 2010. In Kuala Lumpur, they will be up against former world number one Lee Westwood of England, South Africa's 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, three-time Asian Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand and fellow Italian Matteo Manassero. Also in the field are defending champion Kiradech Aphibarnrat, and former winners Yeh Wei-tze (2000), Alastair Forsyth (2002), Arjun Atwal (2003 and 2008) and Peter Hedblom (2007). Nineteen Malaysians have also booked their berths in the tournament via merit while four amateurs - Gavin Kyle Green, Ervin Chang, Solomon Emilio Rosidin and Mohamad Wafiyuddin Abdul Manaf - have also found their way into the list. -- BERNAMA
