MONGOLIA WINS “CHINGIS KHAAN” JUDO GRAND PRIX

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Our national team successfully competed in the “Chingis Khaan” judo Grand Prix tournament held July 4-6 in the “Buyant-Ukhaa” sports complex near Ulaanbaatar under auspices of the President of Mongolia. With a prize fund of 100 thousand US dollars, the events were attended by 282 judokas of 27 countries such as Japan, China, Russia, South Korea, North Korea, Germany, USA, Canada, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Australia, Portugal, Switzerland, Iran, Turkey, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Romania, Singapore and Slovakia. Mongolia was represented by four in each weight category, bur the bests were absent such as N.Tuvshinbayar, the Olympic champion, and S.Nyam-Ochir, the Olympic bronze winner due to injures. By the team results, the Mongolian national team took the first place, capturing three gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Mongolia was followed by Japan (three gold, one silver and five bronze medals), Georgia (two gold, one silver and two bronze medals), China (two gold and one bronze medals) and South Korea (one gold and one silver medals). In addition, the Best Male Judoka prize went to Olympic champion Tagir Khaibulaev of Russia who won the -100kg title with a perfect record as he scored ippon in all five contests, whereas the Best Female Judoka--to the -70kg gold medallist Ts.Naranjargal of Mongolia for winning three of her four fights by ippon.
