Mongolian athletes triumph at 2017 Special Olympics Winter Games

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian athlete N.Uyanga from Darkhan-Uul province won a gold medal in 100-meter alpine skiing tournament held on the first day of the 2017 Youth Winter Special Olympic Games. She became the first Mongolian to win gold medal from the Special Olympic Winter Games. In the Special Olympics World Winter Games Austria 2017, Mongolian national team secured one gold, two silver and one bronze medals in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Another athlete from Mongolia S.Temuulen won a silver medal in the category of snowshoeing. Also, Mongolian floorball team is qualified for the quarter-final after 10 tough matches in the previous rounds. The Mongolian national team for the 2017 Winter Games consists of 14 athletes trained by 3 coaches, competing in categories of floorball, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Special Olympics World Winter Games are an international sporting competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities and this year, the Games are taking place in Austria from March 14 to 25. More than 3000 athletes from 107 countries are competing in 9 disciplines in the Special Olympics World Winter Games Austria 2017.
