MONGOLIAN BECOMES WORLD CHAMPION

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An international master of sports G.Boldbaatar secured a gold medal on the first day--August 25--of the World Judo Championship, which is running in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He has become the third Mongolian to become a judo world champion and to claim the first "gold" in the men’s -60 kg category. Having a bye in the first round, G.Boldbaatar defeated his opponents from Turkey, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan. In the semi-finals, he beat a Georgian, European champion Amiran Papinashvili. In the finals, Boldbaatar defeated a twice European champion Russian Beslan Mudranov, giving shido penalties with three against the Russian. Two bronze medals went to Amiran Papinashvili (Georgia) and Naohisa Takato (Japan). On this day, other three Mongolians competed in the men’s 60 kg and women’s 48 kg divisions bit did not grab any medals. Currently, our national team is the 2nd in the medal table, following Japan that claimed one gold and one bronze medals. On the second day, A.Batsuuri, D.Tomorkhuleg (men’s 66 kg), M.Bundmaa and A.Tsolmon (women’s 52 kg) are to compete.
