M'sia Books Quarter-Final Spot In Asian Junior Badminton Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- As expected, the Malaysian national junior badminton squad qualified for the quarter-final in the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Bangkok, Thailand Sunday. In the second group C match, the national squad beat the Mongolian team 5-0 in the first match of the tournament through its mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron/Pearly Tan who only took 11 minutes to beat Tegshzaya Choinkhor/Temuulen Gombodorj, 21-3 and 21-4. In the men's singles, Leong Jun Hao beat Tuguldur Boldbaatar, 21-14 and 21-12, followed by a three-point victory from women's singles, Eoon Qi Xuan who easily beat Batchimeg Batnairamd, 21-3 and 21-3 in 14 minutes. The men's doubles did not face any problem as they defeated their opponents when Sim Fong Hau/Tan Jia Wei beat Tuguldur Boldbaatar/Temuulen Gombodorj, 21-5 and 21-3. As for the women's doubles, represented by Toh Ee Wei/Yap Ling, they only needed 12 minutes to complete the rout with a 21-4 and 21-3. The national squad will have a fierce fight on their hands in the quarter-final when China is scheduled to meet the winner of group A. -- BERNAMA
