M'sia End YOG 2014 Campaign With One Gold, Two Silver And A Bronze

From AHMAD MULIADY ABDUL MAJID NANJING, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent participating in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2014) here, ended their campaign with one gold, two silver and a bronze medal. The medal haul which surpassed the two silver medals won by diver Pandelela Rinong at the first YOG in Singapore four years ago, came through badminton, diving and archery. The country's first gold medal of the YOG came through shuttler Cheam June Wei from the mixed doubles while diver Loh Zhiayi accounted for a silver and bronze from the women's 10m platform individual and 3m Springboard individual respectively before Muhamad Zarif Syahiir Zolkifli clinched a silver from the archery range through the mixed pairs. Loh Zhiayi who had been in supreme form in the 10m Platform and 3m Springboard, failed to complete her hat-trick of medals after finishing seventh in the international team diving held at the Nanjing OSC Natatorium, Wednesday. The Malaysian contingent led by former shuttler Wong Pei Tty, took part in 10 of the 28 sports contested, namely aquatics (swimming, diving), badminton, gymnastics, golf, archery, shooting, athletics, sailing, taekwondo and equestrian. Host China emerged as the overall champion with 38 gold, 10 silver, 13 bronze, followed by Russia with 23 gold, 18 silver, 11 bronze while USA finished third with nine gold, two silver and six bronze medals. -- BERNAMA
