M'sian State Perlis To Organise Cross-Border International Duathlon

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Perlis will be organising a cross-border international marathon called 'Perlis International Duathlon' from Gua Kelam here to Satun in Thailand on Dec 7. Youth and Sports, Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage committee chairman Abdul Jamil Saad said the event would be participated by runners from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Abdul Jamil said the state government was expecting about 1,000 participants to take part in the event that offers a total prize purse of US$23,933 (RM80,000). "The Perlis government will open the border to about 1,000 interested participants on race day. Those participating in the race need not carry their passport to cross the border. "We have discussed the prospect with the Thailand authorities and Malaysian police, immigration, Civil Defence Department to launch the programme," he told reporters at the launch of the Perlis International Duathlon 2014 at Wisma Pertubuhan Berita Nasional Malaysia (Bernama) in Jalan Tun Razak, here Thursday. The duathlon comprise a 6km run followed by 30km cycling and another 4km of running. The event is also expected to be listed in the Malaysia Book of Records.
