Muizzuddin To Be Crowned World Series Carting Champion In Italy

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- Muizzuddin Musyaffa Abdul Gafar 'Muizz' has made Malaysia proud by creating history after becoming the first Asian to be crowned World Series Karting (WSK) champion. He would be formally crowned at the international karting Gala Awards Dinner in Italy on Jan 10, next year. Gamoto Racing Team Principal, Salvatore Gatto in a statement said the award was not just an honour for Muizz and Gamoto Racing Team, but also for Malaysia. "We hope this award will become Muizz's motivation and spirit as he goes for bigger challenges in the future. Muizz is on the right track in chasing his dream to become a Formula 1 driver. "That's what is always wanting, to be like Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in becoming a F1 driver. We are trying as much as possible to help him pursue that dream," he said. The 12-year-old junior world karter, was named Rookie of The Year of the ROK Cup Italy when he was 10, in 2012, beside scoring podium wins in the prestigious CSAI Italian Karting Championship as a regular top finisher. Last season he finished sixth overall with 117 points in the Italian championship, improving drastically from 13th overall in the preceding year in 2012 with 39 points. Muizz, who received support from the Youth and Sports Ministry last year, managed to win two regional meets, at the Puglia Regional Championship and Sicily Champion Cup in June 2012, to pen his name as the first Malaysian to win go-kart races on European grounds. Salvatore said Muizz would consider participating in other races as well if they could manage strong sponsorship next year. "Muizz will be competing in more prestigious races around Europe, including the CIK-FIA European Championship," he added. -- BERNAMA
