Nicol Reigns Supreme As World Number One For 106th Month

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Despite failing to land any titles this season, Malaysian squash queen, Nicol David still retained her position as the world number one which she has held since August 2006. Based on the latest Women's International Squash Players Association (Wispa) World Rankings issued Thursday, the 31-year Penangite who has accumulated 3,590 points, extended her reigns as the world number one to 106 months. Her closest rival, Egyptian Raneem El-Weleily also cemented her spot in second place with 2,998 points while Nicol's fellow Penangite, Low Wee Wern remained in eighth position with 1,073 points. Two-time World Championship runner-up, Mohamed El-Shorbagy of Egypt still retained his position as world number one with 1,566.5 points despite failing to win any tournament so far. Former three time world champion, Nick Matthew of England, moved one spot up to second place with 1,136 points, courtesy of victories in three tournaments this season -- Swedish Open (February), Windy City Open (March) and Canary Wharf Classic, last week. -- BERNAMA
