Olympic Academy-Northumbria University cooperation discussed

Manama, (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Academy, under the umbrella of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), has discussed possible ways of cooperation with a visiting delegation from Northumbria University, from Newcastle, UK. Academy director Dr Nabeel Taha, joined by Olympic Solidarity manager Maryam Mardana and training and development executive coordinator Mahmood Yateem and training and development specialist Ahmed Hafed, had a fruitful meeting with Katy Storie, International Development Manager at Northumbria University, one of the best young universities in the world, and Zahra Munther. The university has successful and distinguished experiences in linking academic achievement to sport, in addition to organizing a series of sports programmes that contribute to enhancing the students’ abilities in the sports side along with the scientific and academic aspects. Katy also presented their most prominent programmes and sports activities, which provide the best conditions for the student to exercise their favorite game smoothly to develop their abilities in sports, while maintaining their academic achievement. She noted that the university embraces a lot of students from inside and outside England, and has a Bahraini student playing basketball. Katy also expressed the university’s willingness to offer the academy its vast experience in order to help Bahrain universities benefit from Northumbria programmes, which include coaches and athletes’ missions. Taha thanked Northumbria University for its cooperation, which reflects the directives of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King's Representative for Charity and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, in implementation of national programmes to develop the youth and sports sectors in Bahrain.
