Preparations in full swing for Olympic Day

Manama, May 27 (BNA): Preparations are well underway for the 2015 Olympic Day, which is to celebrate for the youth around the world to observe the Olympic values of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship. Scheduled for June 12 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, this year’s Olympic Day is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), being headed by His Majesty the King’s advisor for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. A purpose-formed committee, headed by Fajer Jasim, has stepped up its preparations for this event, which is a commemoration of the Modern Olympic Movement. The committee, which also includes members Lounes Madene, Hasan Abdullatif, Hamad Al Baker, Hasan Ali, Seema Al Kharraz and Ma’amon Al Khatib, had its first coordination meeting yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss a number of arrangements made in preparation for the Olympic Day. A variety of side activities have been approved on this occasion, including an open marathon that will be organized in coordination with the Bahrain Road Runners. Government parties such as the Health Ministry, Civil Defence Directorate and the Interior Ministry will be approached to provide assistance in making this event a great success. Last year’s edition of the Olympic Day was held under the patronage of BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, and celebrated the International Olympic Committee three pillars – Move, Learn and Discover. Olympic Day celebrations encourage communities by motivating individuals to get on the move, learn about values and discover ways to establish and maintain active lifestyles.
