MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/. Previous day was very important for the Russian national team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko told TASS. Sunday became the most successful day for the Russian team at the 2016 Olympic Games. The team won three gold medals: Greco-Roman wrestler Roman Vlasov excelled in the 75 kg weight category, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won the gold medal in the women’s doubles tennis even, gymnast Aliya Mustafina won Olympic gold in uneven bars. The team also received two silver medals: gymnast Maria Paseka won the silver medal in women’s vault and Sergey Kamensky at the men's 50-meter rifle three positions event. Stefania Elfutina won the bronze medal in women’s RS:X windsurfing race, Denis Dmitriev - in sprint cycling. "Of course, it is a pity that we will have no track and field athletes. This was a very important day for us. I would like to congratulate all the athletes and sports fans," Mutko said. "We counted on Makarova and Vesnina - they work well together and absolutely deserved their victory today. Aliya Mustafina excels in this event, and it is great that Maria Paseka has won the silver medal. Roman Vlasov - captain of the team, once again proved himself," the Minister said. "You cannot ignore the bronze medal of our wonderful yachtswoman Stefania Elfutina. Of course, she might not have enough experience, yet she was in the lead for a long time, although it was the first Olympic Games.
