Promoting Malaysian Cuisine At 2018 Asian Games

By Mohd Shukri Ishak BOGOR, Aug 8 (Bernama) – Tourism Malaysia in Indonesia will hold a Malaysian cuisine programme or "Taste of Malaysia" at several hotels and venues in Jakarta during the 2018 Asian Games. Its director Roslan Othman said the programme would not only provide a food alternative to Malaysian sports fans in Jakarta, but could also promote Malaysian cuisine among the Indonesian citizens and all sports fans from Asia. "The Malaysian cuisine programme will be held at five hotels and selected venues in Jakarta during the Asian Games from Aug 18 to Sept 2," he told reporters after the opening of "Taste of Malaysia" at Hotel Sahira in Bogor. The opening of “Taste of Malaysia” at the hotel was launched by Malaysian deputy ambassador to Indonesia, Zamshari Shaharan. Zamshari said the good relations between the leaderships of the two countries would need to be translated too among the people of both countries through the cooking and food programme. "The “Taste of Malaysia” programme, for example, will improve the relationship between Malaysians and Indonesians when we share the taste of food," he said. Sahira Hotel General Manager Ibrahim Ishak said the programme was a joint venture with Hotel Adya Langkawi, which brought in two of its chefs to prepare Malaysian cuisine, from Tuesday to Aug 15. Among the 40 popular and traditional Malaysian cuisine are ‘Kedah laksa’, ‘nasi ulam’, ‘Johor laksa’, ‘nasi dagang’, ‘masak lemak cili api’ and ‘mee udang’. -- BERNAMA
