Qatar Foundation Stadium Passes One Million Man-hours Safety Mark

Doha, June 01 (QNA) - Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), in partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), has reached a major milestone completing one million man-hours without lost time injury at Qatar Foundation Stadium, one of the proposed host venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. An event was held at the Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health and Wellness Precinct to commemorate this safety mark, which is based on industry practice representing working hours without any lost-time injuries. This event was part of a series of safety-related events organised by the SC and its partners across all stadium sites currently underway. Safety days and safety recognition initiatives are held on a regular basis across all 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar proposed host venue construction sites, helping to contribute to the SCs safety record of zero fatalities on all projects. "This important health and safety milestone is crucial to us in our continued progress as we advance further with this project, as it shows clearly that health and safety is a top priority for us," said Eid Al-Qahtani, Project Manager at QFs Capital Projects Directorate. The stadium has been designed to host sports events and activities throughout the year, incorporating world class facilities such as an Olympic size swimming pool, diving facilities, multi-purpose pavilions for all types of indoor sports and concerts, plus open air football training grounds, indoor and outdoor tennis pavilions and basketball courts. QF is implementing world class health and safety standards as well as the QF Mandatory Standards of Migrant Workers Welfare within all of its projects including the Qatar Foundation Stadium. Behind this milestone achievement is the hard work and dedication of the whole team including the contractors United Construction Engineering (UCE) and Consolidated Contracting Company (CCC)/Teyseer, the project and construction management team of ASTAD and Louis Berger, and the close collaboration of Qatar Foundation and the SC. "As we continue to make progress across all of our stadiums, we are proud of the successes and milestones we achieve along the way. We actively promote healthy and safe working environments across all of our sites, engaging in regular safety days and incentives in order to deliver our proposed host venues in a secure and sustainable manner," said Ghanim Al Kuwari, SC Competition Venues Executive Director. Progress continues to be made on Qatar Foundation Stadium, with enabling works currently taking place on-site, and the first package of works completed. UCE was responsible for site set up, construction of site management offices and preliminary excavation of the Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health and Wellness Precinct. Package two of enabling works, being undertaken by CCC/Teyseer, has been split into two phases - phase one includes additional excavation around the stadium to create the basement areas, while phase two includes final excavation to the base formation level. The Qatar Foundation Stadium, with a planned capacity of 40,000 seats and designed by Spanish architects RFA Fenwick Iribarren, is set for completion in 2018. (QNA)
