Qatar Gymnastics Team off to Tashkent

Doha, May 20 (QNA) - Qatar rhythmic gymnastics team Wednesday headed to Tashkent to compete in World Challenge Cup starting Friday at Gymnastics Sport Palace. Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) Assistant Secretary-General Abeer Al Buainain is the Chef de Mission of the girls squad for the three-day event organised in Uzbekistan by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Speaking ahead of the tournament Abeer said the aim of taking part in such major championships is to give international exposure to our young team. "By competing with experienced international performers from other countries at major events, our girls will gain confidence and shed the feeling of awe of performing under the pressure of spectators," she said. Our competitors Sarah Sameer and Hind Waji have prepared well for this event in Tashkent. The technical aspects of their performance is improving after competing at events hosted by Hungary and Portugal earlier, Abeer said. Rhythmic gymnastics comprised two categories - the Individual Competition and the Group Competition. Each Group is made up of five gymnasts. Rhythmic includes five apparatus: Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. However, only four of these are used in a two-year competition cycle, according to FIG. (QNA)
