Qatar to Host FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 and 2020

Paris, June 04 (QNA) - The International Football Federation (FIFA) Council has decided to grant the State of Qatar the right to host the next two editions of the FIFA Club World Cups scheduled for 2019 and 2020. Qatar was chosen to host the two editions as Qatar prepares to host the 2022 World Cup. The upcoming editions of the seven-team competition will serve as valuable test events in the build-up to the FIFA World Cup 2022, even more so since their timing - usually around early December - corresponds with that of the next FIFA World Cup. In regard to the pilot edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2021, the FIFA administration will analyze and proactively approach potential hosts before making a recommendation at the next FIFA Council meeting, in Shanghai, China PR, on 23 and 24 October. The UAE hosted the tournament in 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018 and Morocco in 2013 and 2014, while Japan hosted the tournament between 2005 and 2008 and in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016. Real Madrid secured the last three titles as UEFA Champions League winner and Real Madrid was crowned with the last edition at the expense of Al Ain 4-1. (QNA)
