Qatar Ready For UCI Road World Championships

Doha, July 16 (QNA) - The organising committee of the 2016 UCI Road World Championships will meet in Doha to review the countrys preparations to host the prestigious event . The meeting will be chaired by HE Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Thani, the President of Qatar Cycling Federation (QCF) and will be attended by the QCF board members; Ahmed Al Homaidi, Khalid Arhamah Al Kuwari, Marouf Sheikh and Abdullah Al Hammadi. The event consists of a road race, a team time trial and a time trial for elite men and women and a road race and a time trial for men under-23, junior men and junior women. It will be the 83rd Road World Championships and the first time that Qatar, or the Middle East will host the championships. "No country from the Middle East has ever been selected to host cyclings world championships," said Sheikh Khalid Bin Ali Al Thani. "In 2012, Qatar received the right to host it. The first Arab and Middle East country, and the second in Asia after Japan in 1990. The worlds will enhance Qatars position to host sporting events and it will underline our ability to do it."
