Qatar Sports Day Celebrations Kick Off

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - Activities to mark Qatar's National Sports Day in its fifth edition kicked off on Tuesday morning, in response to the Emiri decree which stated that Tuesday in the second week of February each year will be marked as National Sports Day. It is an unprecedented and unique initiative that aims to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the life of communities. The activities began with a march on the Doha Corniche, attended by dignitaries and representatives of ministries and public and private institutions, as well as many of the athletes and all segments of the society. Sports clubs are participating in this year's event by organizing 67 activities across the country to maximize the public participation in the National Sports Day. Qatar Olympic Committee made great preparations to turn the country into a stadium to accommodate all citizens and residents of various age categories. All sports facilities across the country are opened for the masses who gathered since early morning in various sports venues to exercise sport. Meanwhile, All government and private institutions have organized sports events to celebrate the National Sports Day through processing zones for different games and sport exercises, in addition to sports information centers and restaurants to the public. Aspire Zone hosted several events and activities held by different ministries and government bodies and private sector as part of Qatar National Sports Day. Thousands of people from the local community visited Aspire Zone to celebrate the day and make the most of its world-class facilities and venues. These institutions include Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, Carrefour, Qatar volunteer center, Al Jaish sports club, Ministry of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Siemens, RasGas, Qatar Petroleum, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat), Qatar Shell, Qatar Football Association, Qatar First Bank, Vodafone, Qatar Navigation, Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company (Tasweeq), Qatar Exchange, Ministry of Energy and Industry, National Human Rights Committee, Qatar Diabetes Association, and Sports Corner. AZF and its member organizations Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics have been busily preparing these past few weeks to ensure a mix of activities that both exceed the publics expectations and which reflect the importance of the largest sports festival in the country. In particular, the Foundation has focused on ensuring a program that is suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness to appeal to all members of the community. The Foundations NSD program focuses on promoting physical activity, lifestyle and behavior choices, as well as strengthening participants awareness of the importance of sport and its role in supporting the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. This focus aligns with AZFs objective of promoting healthy lifestyles in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030. AZF organizes a number of football competitions during NSD, including the Aspire Academy Football League for players born between 2004 2005. Around 220 players from Qatar Football Federation clubs are expected to participate in this league. Young visitors to Aspire will also be able to take part in a number of exciting football matches on Aspire Zones outdoor football pitches. Another exciting event taking place this year is the beach soccer competition, which will see eight teams take part. A number of 3 on 3 basketball competitions will also be organized in partnership with the Qatar Basketball Federation. The visitors at the Aspire Dome have the opportunity to take part in a number of fitness activities including sprinting, throwing, vertical jumping, 200m bike racing and more. The Aspire Academy Football Performance and Science Department is also organizing a number of activities. (MORE)
