Qatar Sports Officials to Address AIPS Congress

Doha, February 08 (QNA) - Presentations by top delegates and continental meetings of the 79th AIPS Congress (Association Internationale De La Presse Sportive or International Sports Press Association) start here Monday at the Doha Sheraton. Among the leading speakers at the 79th session are Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Thani Al Kuwari and Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy Secretary General Hassan Abdullah Al Thawadi. In the post lunch session International University Sports Federation (FISU) President Oleg Matytsin and UEFA Head of Events Services Lukas Achermann will make their presentation to the assembly of international sports journalists. Later in the day the assembly will consider for approval of reports to be presented by the president, secretary-general, treasurer, and marketing followed by official opening ceremony at 7.30pm at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom, congress organisers schedule says. At the Executive Committee meeting held here yesterday AIPS President Gianni Merlo announced that AIPS Director of Marketing and Special Projects and former Secretary General Roslyn Morris will take over the role of Secretary General Interim from Evelyn Watta. The committee discussed the venues for the upcoming AIPS Congresses in 2017 and 2018. It was also announced that Turkey was the most likely candidate to host the 2018 AIPS Congress, with more details regarding this possibility to be revealed in upcoming Executive board meetings. The sports congress gives Qatar's sports fraternity the opportunity to present its credentials as one of the world's top international sports hosts and its state-of-the-art sports infrastructure and hospitality sector. Qatar will be the first Arab country to host the FIFA World Cup from in 2022. It will also host the 17th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2019 at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. Qatar won the FIFA World Cup bid in 2010. (QNA)
