Qatari Champion Mutaz Barshim Finishes Second in Diamond League Comeback

London, July 22 (QNA) - Qatari champion Mutaz Barshim made a strong come back at the London tour, the 10th round of the diamond league. He came in second place behind Syria's Majededdin Ghazal after jumping as high as 2.27 meters, his personal best in the diamond league this year. Barshim has been out with injury for a long period so far. He recently recorded the same number in Poland, exactly two months ago. He was looking to break the 2.3-meter mark but just could not do so in his three attempts. Barshim will continue to up his preparations in order to be at his best when Qatar hosts the 2019 World Championships in Athletics from September 27 to October 6. He suffered an ankle injury in Hungry in July 2018 and only returned to action two months ago. Last year saw him make a new record 2.4-meter jump for the Diamond League, which he achieved in the Doha round. His personal best is 2.43 meters. Assistant Secretary-General at Qatar Athletics Federation Talal Mansour praised the strong showing of Barshim today. He said that the fact the Qatari athlete managed to get second place despite his long absence was a testament to his commitment to returning to his best. (QNA)
