QOC Secretary General Meets International Weightlifting Federation President

Doha, January 05 (QNA) - HE Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met today President of International Weightlifting Federation Dr Tamas AJAN on the sidelines of the second Qatar Weightlifting Cup and Asian Arab Junior-Youth Weightlifting Championships, which continues until January 7 with the participation of more than 45 Asian and Arab countries and more than 200 athletes.     HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani welcomed President of International Weightlifting Federation's visit to Doha and praised the Federation's efforts to develop weightlifting sport all over the world, especially in Asia as well as Dr AJAN's eagerness to attend the general assembly and election of Asian Weightlifting Federation being held in Doha.     The two sides discussed signing agreements with Qatar Olympic Academy and the anti-doping laboratory for the development of doping-free sport.      The International Weightlifting Federation President extended his thanks and appreciation to Qatar Olympic Committee for its efforts to promote weightlifting sport and hosting more than one championship at the same time as well as organizing meetings of the Asian and Arab weightlifting federations.        He praised the achievement of Qatari weightlifter Faris Ibrahim Hassounah, who set a new young men world record of weight class 77 (jerk) by lifting 184 kg, while the former world record was 181kg achieved in the second Qatar international cup.
