Rou You-Ho Ying Win Gold Medal In Ping Pong

From Nursyabiha Sukri PALEMBANG, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian women's ping pong pair of Lee Rou You and Ho Ying created an upset to win the gold medal at the 17th Asean University Games (AUG) here, Wednesday. Rou You and Ho Ying lost to Neuyen Thi Niet Linh-Pham Thi Thien Kint of Vietnam 7-11 in the first set of the final at Sriwijaya University. Rou You-Ho Ying rose to equalise 1-1 with a 11-6 win in the second set. But Niet Linh and Thi Thien beat Rou You-Ho Ying 5-11 in the third set. Nevertheless, Rou You and Ho Ying confirmed a Malaysian win in the final two sets 11-9 and 11-7. Rou You said the win with Ho Ying was their best achievement in an international competition. "I am very proud at winning a gold medal in this edition because all the athletes taking part here have good experiences," Rou You told reporters. Ho Ying said she was satisfied at being able to beat the defending champion from Vietnam. The last time Malaysia won a gold medal in the event was at the 2008 AUG when it was the host. The deciding match for the bronze medal would take place today at 4pm local time (5pm Malaysian Time). -- BERNAMA
