Russia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup heritage amounts to 600 facilities - sports minister

NOVOGORSK, March 6. /TASS/. Russia’s heritage from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off this summer in 11 cities across the country, will amount to 600 facilities, including 96 training sites for children and youth sports schools, Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said on Tuesday. "The prime task for the Sports Ministry at the moment is to complete the construction of all facilities in line with the schedule and the FIFA requirements, as well as to provide the transfer of all facilities under the authority of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Russia-2018 for the championship," Kolobkov said. "The heritage of the championship will amount to 600 facilities, which will include sports, transport, hotel and medical infrastructure," the sports minister said. "Moreover, 96 training sites will be handed over to 50 children and youth sports schools, while the stadiums will become the centers for the development of football." Russia entered on Monday the 100-day countdown to the start of the much-anticipated global quadrennial football event, which is the FIFA World Cup. The country selected 11 host cities to be the venues for the matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and they are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara. The matches of the 2018 World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums located in the 11 aforementioned cities across Russia.
