Russia wins 2 golds at Day 6 of FINA World Championships, but still 2nd after China

KAZAN, July 31. /TASS/. Russia’s national team maintained its 2nd place in the overall medals standings as the Day 6 of the 2015 FINA World Championships wrapped up in the country’s Republic of Tatarstan on Thursday night. The hosting team, however, won two golds on Thursday and leveled the tally of the championship’s gold medals with current leaders China, who keep Russia behind the top spot in the overall medals standings having won more silver and bronze. The leaders of the medals standings, China, are currently boasting six gold, six silver and three bronze medals, while Russia packs six gold, two silver and one bronze medals. With more than a week remaining of the FINA World Championship, hosted by Russia for the first time ever, the Top 10 in the overall medals standings is as follows (as of July 30): 1. China - 15 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze) 2. Russia - 9 medals (6-2-1) 3. The United States - 5 medals (3-1-1) 4. Germany - 3 medals (1-1-1) 5. Italy - 4 medals (1-0-3) 6. Democratic People’s Republic of Korea - 2 medals (1-0-1) 6. Great Britain - 2 medals (1-0-1) 7. France - 1 gold 7. South Africa - 1 gold 8. Canada - 3 silver 8. The Netherlands - 3 silver 9. Ukraine - 3 medals (0-2-1) 10. Brazil, Greece and Spain (each team won 1 silver and 1 bronze medals after the Day 6 of the championship). The 2015 FINA (the International Swimming Federation) World Championships is underway in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, between July 24 and August 9 bringing together some 2,400 athletes from over 190 countries.
