Russian women team accepted for 2014 World Chess Olympiad in Norway

ATHENS, July 18 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s national women chess team was granted permission by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) to compete in the 2014 FIDE Olympiad in Norway’s Tromso next month, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the president of the federation, said on Friday. The organizing committee of the Olympiad earlier declined to register the Russian national women’s team saying that Russia allegedly failed to submit its application before the announced deadline of June 1. The Russian Chess Federation, however, said that FIDE regulations did not stipulate any penalties for the failure to submit the application and the team could register for the international competition after the stated deadline. The Russian women’s chess team participated in a total of 10 chess Olympiads winning two of them in 2010 and 2012. Learn more on itar-tass.com
