SC Holds Workshop for Qatar-based Potential Turf Management Partners

Doha, June 07 (QNA) - The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has organised a turf management introduction workshop for potential landscaping partners ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. Held at the SC offices at Al Bidda Tower, the primary objective of the introductory workshop was to impart the methodology behind creating, maintaining and managing the grass to be laid out in the proposed host venues for 2022, six of which are currently under various stages of construction. Nine Qatar-based landscaping companies participated in the introductory workshop, the first of a series designed to identify and train experienced local contractors. The future turf partners will help to oversee all aspects of turf management including the identification of the best type of grass from those currently being tested at the SC's unique state-of-the-art Research and Development Centre at the Aspire Zone. SC Manager for Landscape & Sport Turf Management Yasser Al Mulla told www.sc.qa: "The turf management industry is unique in that there are very few contractors globally who have the expertise needed for growing and managing the turf. Through these workshops, our target is to enable Qatar-based turf management contractors to deliver international standards. The contractors can then find business opportunities in other countries in the future." Al Mulla highlighted the importance of the workshops in light of the 2022 FIFA World Cup legacy planning: "The workshops are unique. We are not just asking the potential partner to run our turf management programme. We will be getting them to understand the whole spectrum of the industry including the processes that govern our own programme defined in our research and development centre. We are engaging in unique knowledge transfer and thereby getting Qatar-based contractors delivering internationally accepted standards. We are helping them to emerge as internationally recognised experts in the industry before and after 2022." Saleem Waigh Mohamed, a landscape project manager at the Al Sulateen Agricultural & Industrial Complex (SAIC) who participated in the introductory workshop said: "I must thank the SC for organising this workshop. It was very unique. I have proven experience in the industry having worked as a partner of Aspire Zone for more than six years from 2008 and I have a lot of information gained on the job. However, the SC workshop helped to give authenticity and clarity to such information. Authentic information is hard to find and SC has provided this with these workshops." (QNA)
