SEA Games: Vietnam Lifts Gold Medal In Weightlifting (56kg Category)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Vietnam won the gold medal in the weightlifting event (56 kilogram category) at the 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur (KL2017), on Monday. Thach Kim Tuan beat the other participants after lifting an overall total 269kg. He lifted a weight of 120 kg for the ‘snatch’ discipline and 149 kg for the ‘clean & jerk’ event at the competition held at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MiTEC) here. The silver went to Surahmat Suwoto Wijoyo from Indonesia with a total lift of 267 kg (119 kg ‘snatch’ and 148kg ‘clean & jerk’). Thailand took home the bronze medal through Witoon Mingmoon who lifted a total weight of 259kg (110 kg ‘snatch’ and 149 kg ‘clean& jerk’). Meanwhile, Malaysian athlete Muhammad Azroy Hazalwafie Izhar Ahmad had to be contented with fourth placing with a total lift of 258 kg (115 kg ‘snatch’ and 143 kg ‘clean & jerk’). When met by reporters, Muhammad Azroy Hazalwafie said although he did not win any medal, he was still satisfied for being able to beat his personal record of 250 kg at the Islamic Solidarity Sport 2017 in Baku, Azerbaijan in May. -- BERNAMA
