Security Committee of World Athletics Championship Confirms Readiness of Khalifa Stadium Security System

Doha, September 25 (QNA) - The Security Committee of the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha confirmed the readiness of the security system for Khalifa Stadium, where the championship is being held, adding that all security committee units that participate in the insurance process are fully and professionally prepared by providing all means of security and safety. Assistant Head of the Security Committee of the World Athletics Championship and Director of Security of Khalifa International Stadium Burhan Capt. Saleh Al Turki said that the Security Committee has developed alternative plans and measures to secure the championship in accordance with the highest international security standards, along with applying all the security requirements stipulated by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). He pointed out that the security of Khalifa Stadium depends on a security strategy developed some time ago by the Security Committee and depends in its entirety on the security presence of the various units in the committee inside and outside the stadium, including to implement the traffic plan that will lead traffic before and during the tournament, as well as make the necessary transfers if needed. He said that the process of securing the stadium also depends on advanced security plans with the follow-up insurance operations through the control room and control of the stadium linked to the main operating room of the National Command Center (NCC), which communicates with all security units at the site of the event. The security units participating will work to apply the security and safety procedures for the movement of the masses inside the stadium in order to make the tournament a success and maintain the safety and security of all, he added. As for the security procedures for the entry of the public to the stadium, Al Turki explained that the security procedures applied for the entry of the public to the stadium are easy but subject to several stages for the safety of all. The first stage is the passage through the security tents set up by the security committee, which are seven large tents in all directions leading to the stadium and the area of activities adjacent to the entrance gates and is available to the public two hours before the competitions. The last stage is at the gates allocated for the distribution of the masses and their seating, which is the prerogative of security personnel stadiums, and there are volunteers to serve the masses everywhere inside the stadium. Al Turki pointed out that the security inspection is to ensure the security of the masses and to watch competitions without any problems, as well as to contribute in the prevention of banned materials entering to the stadium. He called on the public to adhere to the list of prohibited prohibitions to enter the stadium, including fireworks and glass bottles, small strollers and any items that takes space in the runway, in addition to sharp objects, pets and other hard objects that may cause harm to the bearer, which will be displayed on posters for the public in security audit tents. Regarding the cooperation of the security units involved in the insurance process, he said that there is full cooperation and harmony among all the security units of the Security Committee, adding that the committee succeeded in providing all the security requirements of each unit that are in compliance with the requirements of the IAFF. In addition, all security plans are based on the cooperation of these units with each other in order to organize a successful tournament in a sporting atmosphere and security arrangements that maintain security and safety, according to Al Turki. Women Police Department at the Ministry of Interior and the Lekhwiya are playing an important and vital role in the security aspect of the championship within the tasks of the security committee. Director of the women's police department at the Police Training Institute Lieutenant Khulood Anbar Al Nuaimi, said that the participation of women police contributes to enhance the role of security and work to achieve safety for all participants in the championship, whether from women's sports teams or the public. The women's police are responsible for many tasks for women delegations, both locally and internationally, from receiving these delegations and organizing their visit to Qatar, in addition to ensuring their security and safety. She added that the Ministry of Interior has developed a model plan, that has assigned the female police as an effective component to enhance security, which have had successful partnerships in 2006 Asian Games, demonstrating the skill of women to participate in enhancing security. Regarding the training for the female elements involved in securing the championship, Company Commander of women's security forces in Lekhwiya Lieutenant Rawda Masoud Al Abdullah explained that in coordination with the Police Training Institute, a professional program for military personnel has been developed to improve their skills in the field of communication, planning and organization, in addition to working to give them new knowledge in the field of sports events management through the introduction of advanced academic materials and field exercises where the trainees participated in covering sports events that took place at Al Sadd Club, and they were able to apply many new methodologies in the field of inspection, communication and organization in the field of crowd management and other skills. Al-Abdullah said that there are three basic pillars that are important for participating in this kind of training, these include active participation in the process of establishing security in the stadiums during the events and full compliance with the security plans by the MoI and the implementation of all orders in accordance with the system of military control and give an honorable picture of the female military component and crystallize their effective role in enhancing security during the event. On the tasks and of the female police officers in the championship, she pointed out that the female police was distributed to the gates of four facilities, namely Khalifa Stadium, Doha Corniche, Qatar Club and Media Center. It is known that participation in the management of the security of sports events is based on a set of tasks and responsibilities, the most important of which is the efficiency of the female element in extending the system inside and outside the stadiums, ensuring the security and safety of the participating families, especially women and children, organizing the entry and exit of the stadiums, and carrying out inspections to ensure that no prohibitions inside the stadiums, commitment to civilized communication with the public, and a permanent presence to participate in the control of violations.
