Seminar on sports leadership held

Manama, Nov.28 (BNA): A seminar on ‘Sports Leadership’ was staged at the National Stadium’s Conference hall in Riffa recently. Organized by the Sports Training and Development Centre, which is under the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the seminar was conducted by Canadian Dr Don Clark, Director of the National Coaching Institute in Saskatchewan, a prairie province in Canada. Speaking at the seminar, Dr Clark highlighted the leadership skills that each coach should have in order to achieve excellence and quality results on the field. Some of these skills include ways of communication with the athletes and how he can deliver his tactics while dealing with modern technology sources to fulfill his goals. Dr Clark also stressed the importance of the coach to be able to deal with different media sources and communicate with them during TV interviews or at the press conferences. Other skills the coach should have is the ability to deal with volunteers during international competitions such as the Olympics, besides periodic planning and strategic planning and evaluation of his work in order to develop his team management. The Canadian concluded the seminar by speaking about the keys of success for any coach, which is to build a network of relations and permanently seeking to develop his capacity to become one of the leading top figures in the world of training and a prime target for the clubs and sports federations to take advantage of his services. Dr Clark is specialized in sports management and has a vast coaching experience which started in 1970 when he started working at the university’s Regina College. He us also a former wrestling team national coach.
