Shaikha Hayat selection to IOC panel hailed

Manama, Sept. 23 (BNA): Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, said the re-election of Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa as member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Athletes Entourage Commission, was in recognition of her contributions to sports, regionally and internationally. Shaikha Hayat, member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and the Bahrain Olympic Committee, and Bahrain Table Tennis Association president, was recently chosen by the IOC to a third successive term at the Athletes Entourage Commission, being headed by world pole vault champion Sergey Bubka of Ukraine. Askar said he was proud and pleased for the announcement, which reflects the tremendous reputation Shaikha Hayat enjoys as well as the IOC’s faith in the Bahraini competencies in all areas. The commission, which comprises all the people associated with the athletes, includes managers, agents, coaches, physical trainers, medical staff, scientists, sports organisations, sponsors, lawyers and any person promoting the athlete’s sporting career, including family members.
