Silver Medal Can Clear Wendy's Name

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia) Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Winning a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang can clear national diving athlete Ng Yan Yee’s name from the doping issue. She said the silver medal she won in the 3m springboard synchronised event with Nur Dhabitah Sabri was a satisfaction and proved that she was still able to contribute to the national diving squad. The victory also repeated Yan Yee's silver medal achievements in the event at the 2010 edition with Leong Mun Yee and the 2014 edition with Cheong Jun Hoong. Yan Yee, or Wendy, who rested for eight months due to suspension, also missed the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast last April. She was suspended from any international tournament for eight months from August last year, following a doping case. "This silver medal proves that I can still perform well.. and I am a very clean athlete actually. This is also the opportunity for me to clear my name, ‘’she said when met at KLIA2 Monday. Yan Yee arrived home with 113 athletes and officials after completing the 2018 Asian Games challenges which ended Tuesday. At the event, the squad contributed a silver through Wendy-Nur Dhabitah in women’s 3m synchronised springboard event and three bronze medals from a Leong Mun Yee-Nur Dhabitah combination (10m women’s synchronised platform), Nur Dhabitah (3m individual springboard) and Chia Yiwei (3m men’s individual springboard). Meanwhile, Wendy admitted she was nervous at the once-in-four-year festival after resting for eight months. However, the 25-year-old athlete was happy and satisfied because she managed to overcome all the difficulties and achieved a satisfactory result. Wendy said she was currently resting and undergoing a rehabilitation process following a recurring injury on the left shoulder and back before fighting for a slot to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She said the national squad would be facing the Malaysia's Grand Prix competition in October and several other series before taking part in the World Diving Championship next year. -- BERNAMA
