Simon Clegg Re-Joins European Olympic Committees

Baku, May 12, AZERTAC Simon Clegg, the ex Baku 2015 Chief Operating Officer has been reappointed as the European Olympic Committee’s European Games Executive Director. According to the Committee’s official webpage,Clegg originally briefly held the position in 2013 before being asked to relocate to Azerbaijan where he worked with the Republic’s Minister for Youth and Sport, Azad Rahimov for the highly successful inaugural edition of the European Games. His new role will see him regularly in Belarus from now till Games time, where he will work closely with the Minsk European Games Organising Committee (MEGOC) for the successful delivery of thesecond edition of the Olympic Movement of Europe’s premier event. Commenting on his appointment EOC President, Janez Kocijančič said ‘I am delighted that Simon has agreed to re-join us. His experience in Baku coupled with over 30 years in the Olympic movementmean that he is uniquely placed to support the EOC and MEGOC. Whilst still relatively young, the European Games concept is the EOC’s most valuable asset and this appointment further strengthens our aspirations for the brand and the futureof this important event.’ Simon Clegg said ‘I am flattered to have been invited to re-join the EOC. Just as no two Olympic Games are alike so Minsk 2019 will be different in many ways to Baku 2015. The core component howeverof showcasing the best athletic talent in Europe just 12 months before the next Olympic Games will be even stronger with many sports once again offering Olympic qualifications opportunities. I believe that Belarus will deliver an outstanding European Gamesand I look forward to supporting them to build on the success of Baku 2015.’
