Sivasangari Marches Into El Gouna International Squash Open Main Draw

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysian number two women's squash player, S.Sivasangari advanced into the main draw of the El Gouna International Squash Open Championship after securing victory in the final qualifying match of the tournament held at El Gouna Squash Complex in Egypt, Thursday. The budding squash player booked her berth to the main draw when she disposed of England's Millie Tomlinson in straight sets, 12-10, 11-7 and 11-8 in a 28-minute encounter. The Sungei Petani lass had her sweet revenge over Tomlinson, who defeated her in the quarter-finals of the Nantes Open Squash Championship last year. "The last time we played, was in Nantes and I learned a lot from that match, so I was looking forward to get into the court. "Today, I just tried and controlled her, her straight game is very good, and I was trying to get the ball early, to move her around. "It’s my first ever World Series main draw, I’m very happy as I got a few opportunities before, but never managed to really make it. But I think I really raised my game yesterday and today," said the 19-year-old as quoted in the tournament's blog. Fresh from participating at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Sivasangari had earlier defeated Samantha Teran of Mexico 6-11, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-7 in her first qualifying round yesterday. However Rachel Arnold failed to enter the main draw when she lost to Coline Aumard of France 5-11, 10-12, 11-9 and 8-11 in 39 minutes. Meanwhile, Malaysia's number one women squash player, Nicol Ann David would start her campaign Friday against a qualifier in the first half of the first round. In the men's category, Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan also marched into the main draw after recovering from a game down. The Malaysian number one men's singles player defeated India's Mahesh Mangaonkar 6-11, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-9 in 40 minutes. -- BERNAMA
