Soccer - Four cities to host quarterfinal of Independence Cup

Jakarta, Aug 26 (Antara) -- The transitional team which was set to take over the tasks of the suspended All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has decided to hold the quarterfinals of Independence Cup in four cities, an official has said. "Any soccer team that will win the group A,B,C and D must become the host," a member of the transitional team, Zuhaeri Misrawi said here on Wednesday. Three teams have been ascertained to host the matches namely Persepam in Madura, Cilegon in Banten, and Persiba Bantul, Misrawi said. Meanwhile soccer matches in group A still in progress because PSMS Medan, PS Kwarta and Kalteng Putra continue to compete. The quarterfinal will be held on August 29, he stated, adding that the final match will be held on September 5. So far as many as 24 clubs have been participating in the Independence Cup, which is organized by the transitional team in six cities. Events of Group A of the soccer tournament is held in Teladan Stadium in the North Sumatra provincial city of Medan, while those of Group B is held in Maulana Yusuf Stadium in Serang and in Cilegon Stadium, both in Banten province. Group C games is held in two sports stadiums in the Java Island, Manahan in Solo and Sultan Agung in Bantul. Events of Group D takes place in Wilis Stadium in the East Java city of Madiun. On April 17, the management of the PSSI was suspended by Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Imam Nahrawi. On May 8, the minister had announced the names of the members of the transition team that would take over the rights and authority of the PSSI following its suspension. The quarterfinals will begin on August 27, after which the organizing committee has scheduled a break before the semifinal matches.
