'Sports medicine clinic brings top treatment'

Manama, Feb. 14 (BNA): The National Sports Medicine Centre’s first specialized sports medicine and injuries clinic is now open and fully functional, the centre announced yesterday. This first-of-its-kind clinic of the centre, which is under the umbrella of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), provides additional services for the treatment of injured Bahraini and non-Bahraini athletes. Based at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town, the clinic is supervised by Dr Francisco Chapman of Cuba, and is part of the BOC massive project aimed to develop the National Sports Medicine Centre facilities and services. According to Chapman, the new clinic is only open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm until 8pm, and those interested athletes may contact the clinic reception in advance to book an appointment. State-of-art technologies are being used at the clinic, providing modern techniques for treatment of different types of injuries with efficiency, including torn muscle injuries. "Our main goal here is to make the National Sports Medicine Centre as one of the best specialized facilities for sports injuries treatment and rehabilitation, thanks to the support from Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa," said Chapman. "The centre is not only focusing on injury analysis, treatment or rehabilitation, but it also seeks to spread awareness among the athletes to prevent sports injuries, especially in the lower part of the thigh muscle". "I would like to thank Shaikh Nasser for giving me the opportunity to work here at the Bahrain Sports Medicine Centre and I promise to give my very best expertise to help Bahrain sport reach highest performance standards," added Chapman. Dr Chapman, who has been working in the field of sports medicine and sports injuries since 1992, served for several years in India, Ethiopia and Algeria before coming to Bahrain. He has a vast experience in sports injuries, having worked with different national teams in Cuba, including wrestling, He also attended a number of world-class competitions such as the World Athletics Championship in Portugal in 2002, besides a series of specialized courses in medical supervision, sports injuries, sports traumatology and neural therapy. Dr Chapman has participated in major international conferences such as the Cuban Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology in November 1998 AND THE Scientific Conference of Sports Medicine in May 2001
