Sports medicine clinic launched

Manama, Feb. 3 (BNA): The National Sports Medicine Centre’s first specialised sports medicine and injuries clinic was opened today at the Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town. Southern Governor and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa inaugurated the clinic, which provides additional services for the treatment of injured Bahraini athletes. Supervised by Dr Francisco Chapman of Cuba, the clinic is part of the BOC massive project aimed to develop the National Sports Medicine Centre facilities and services. "I would like to thank Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for giving me the opportunity to work here at the Bahrain Sports Medicine Centre and I promise to offer my experience to help Bahrain sport reach highest performance standards," said Chapman in his speech. Dr. Chapman, who has been working in the field of sports medicine and sports injuries since 1992, servedfor several years in India, Ethiopia and Algeria before coming to Bahrain. Shaikh Abdulla commended the steps taken by the BOC in boosting the services being provided at the centre in an attempt to ensure best treatment solutions, as well as analysis and rehabilitation of the injured athletes. Shaikh Abdulla also expressed pride for the prominent staff available at the centre and the advanced technology equipment which provide high level treatment for the national team athletes and citizens alike. The event was also attended by high-ranking officials from the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Health Ministry, Education Ministry, Information Affairs Ministry, Bahrain Defence Force and other relevant authorities.
