Sultan Of Johor Cup : Malaysia And Argentina Share The Spoils In A 2-2 Draw

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor), Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Argentina shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw on the second day of the Sultan of Johor Cup hockey tournament at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, here Monday. The squad coached by Arul Selvaraj took the fight to the Argentineans and were leading twice, only to see Argentina claw back to score the equaliser on both occasions. Muhammad Shahril Saabah gave Malaysia a flying start by converting a penalty corner strike after a good push out by Muhd Amirol Aideed Md Arshad in the 6th minute Tomas Domene equalised for Argentina through another penalty corner strike in the 27th minute. Malaysia came back strongly and restored the lead through the same Muhd Amirol-Muhammad Shahril combination in the 32nd minute and led Argentina 2-1 when the half time hooter was sounded. However, Domene once again rescued his side with another clinical penalty corner strike in the 61st minute. In another match, Australia handed Pakistan their second consecutive defeat after walking out with a 6-2 win when Andrew Scanlon scored a brace in the 8th and 12th minutes from penalty corners while Hayden Beltz (27th min), Max Hendry (29th min), Kiran Arunasalam (63rd min) and Max Hendry (70th min), added one each. Mubashar Ali scored both Pakistan's goals in the 31st and 43rd minutes. Meanwhile, Great Britain who beat Malaysia 4-2 Sunday, chalked up another victory by beating defending champion India 4-3 in a closely fought match. Great Britain under Jon Bleby scored through James Simpson (6th min), Luke Taylor (31st, 68th min) and Jack Clee (47th min) while India struck through Sumit Kumar (16th, 25th) and Manpreet Jr (29th min).
