Super Globe 2018 Teams Arrived in Doha

Doha, October 15 (QNA) - All teams participating in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Super Globe 2018, hosted by Qatar for the ninth consecutive year, have arrived in Doha. The event will kick off on Tuesday and continue until next Friday with the participation of eight clubs: hosts Al Saad, FC Barcelona, French Montpellier Handball, Bahraini Al-Najma, Brazilian Taubate, Sydney University Handball Club, Tunisian Association Sportive de Hammamet, and Fuchse Berlin which was received a special invitation by the International Federation to participate in the tournament as a runner up of the past tournament. Three teams arrived in Doha today, namely Bahraini Al-Najma, Fuchse Berlin, French Montpellier and Spanish Barcelona. The Sydney University team arrived yesterday and the Tunisian Association Sportive de Hammamet and the Brazilian Taubate arrived before yesterday. On the opening day of the tournament, which is held at the hall of Duhail Sports, four matches will be held in quarter-finals, where Barcelona take on Bahraini Al-Najma and French Montpellier Handball meet Tunisian Association Sportive de Hammamet, while Brazilian Taubate face Fuchse Berlin, and hosts Al Saad play against Sydney University Handball Club. The four winning team will qualify for the semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday. The teams will take a rest on Thursday, and the final match will be held on Friday. Hosts Al Saad with their 10th participation in the Super Globe, is looking to win their opening match against the Sydney University team in order to qualify for the semi-finals and are hoping to continue the successes achieved in their previous participations where they were awarded the title in the second edition which was held in Doha in 2002, and were runner up twice in 2010, 2014 and finished third in 2012. Al Saad coach announced the players who will represent the team in the tournament with a list of 13 players: Abdallah Al Karbi, Faisal Al Kuwari, Khaled Bakhder, Abdallah Al Kuwari, Mohammed Abdullatif, Uday Hussain, Noor Ashraf, Khaled Haj Yusuf, Nikola Mitrovic, Arhad Alihoudzich, Rachid Youssef and Amir Denkair. The Organizing Committee of IHF Super Glob 2018 allocated large money prizes, where the winner of the first place will be awarded $400,000, while the second place will get a prize of $250,000, the third $150,000, the fourth $40,000, the fifth $25,000, the sixth $15,000, the seventh $12,000, and the eighth $7,500. Five referees will participate in the tournament from Denmark, Tunisia, Spain, Argentina and Germany. Qatar has been hosting the IHF Super Globe" for ninth time in a row since 2010, which was won by the Spanish Ciudad Real team. The German Kiel team won 2011 edition, Spanish Atletico Madrid team was the champion of 2012, while Barcelona won 2013 and 2014 editions. The Fuchse Berlin of Germany won 2015 and 2016, and Barcelona won 2017 edition. On the other hand, the governing body of the International Handball Federation will hold a meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the tournament, while the meeting of the Executive Office of the Asian Handball Federation will be held on Wednesday.
