Tennis: Wawrinka Delighted to Start the Year with a Win

Doha, January 08 (QNA) - No.1 seed Stan Wawrinka expressed Tuesday his delight after beating Jeremy Chardy of France 6-3, 6-4 to book his place in the quarterfinals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha. He said after a press conference after the match that he was delighted to get the year off to a winning start. He highlighted that the match was not an easy one contrary to what the score may suggest. Wawrinka added that he was focused on delivering a strong service to help his case in the match. He also expressed his delight that he can still play close to his best despite being out on the court and winning titles for 17 years during a time when arguably the best tennis players in history were also competing.
