Thailand To Face Australia In AFF Futsal Final

SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Defending champion Thailand will face Australia in the final of the 2014 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship on Saturday at the Malawati Stadium. In the first semifinal on Thursday, Thailand recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Indonesia with Wanlop Pansomsua scoring the winner in the 39th minute. In the second semifinal, Australia booked their place in the final after beating Vietnam 4-3 after extra time. Vietnam's Phung Trong Luan opened accounts in the 7th minute before Australia equalised through Jarrod Marcus Basger in the 19th minute and took the lead in the second half through Daniel Steven Fogarty's 22nd minute strike before Phung levelled the tie at 2-2 in the 26th minute. A minute later, Gregory James Giovenali managed to add the third goal for Australia but Vietnam again fought back to equalise through Nguyen Bao Quan in the 39th minute. When the match ended in a 3-3 draw, 10 minutes of extra time was added and that was when Fogarty sealed the victory for Australia in the 48th minute. Thailand has won the title in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 while Indonesian were winners in 2010. --BERNAMA
