Vugar Hashimov memorial kicks off in Baku

Baku, July 25 (AzerTAc). An international Under-12 chess tournament commemorating Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Hashimov has started in Baku. Participants in the opening ceremony included Vice-Presidents of Azerbaijan Chess Federation Mahir Mammadov and Faig Hasanov, and vice president of Georgian Chess Federation Zurab Azmayparashvili. The tournament brings together players from Azerbaijan, Russia, France, Georgia, Turkey, Iran and other countries. The memorial will feature nine rounds, with the winner qualifying for the European chess championship due to take place in Batumi, Georgia. The runner-up will earn the right to compete in the Baku Open, while the bronze medal winner will book a spot in the Nakhchivan Open tournament.
