Indonesia Signs MoU With Russia's Rosatom

By R. Ravichandran MOSCOW, June 3 (Bernama) -- The National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (Batan) and the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Rosatom) Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Development of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. Among others under the MoU, Rosatom and Batan will intensify interactions on the possibility of implementing Russian nuclear power plant projects in Indonesia. In April 2015, Batan announced that Renuko, the Russian-Indonesian Consortium with participation of Rosatom subsidiaries, was the winner of the tender for the conceptual design of a 10MW multipurpose experimental high-temperature gas-cooled reactor in Indonesia. According to the MoU, the two sides would continue cooperation on the multipurpose experimental reactor and also strive to develop scientific and technological cooperation in other areas of mutual areas. Besides that, joint work is planned to promote the use of nuclear energy in Indonesia, and increase information awareness among the people regarding modern nuclear energy technologies. Tuesday’s signing ceremony took place at the ongoing three-day, 7th ATOMEXPO International Nuclear Energy Forum organised by Rosatam here. The MoU was signed by Batan chairman Dr Djarot Sulistio Wisnubroto and Kirill Komarov, Rosatom's first deputy chief executive officer (corporate development and international business). Komarov said the Russian state-owned company fully supported Batan's strong commitment to the development of nuclear technologies in Indonesia. “Nuclear energy is viable option for this country, and Rosatom is already cooperating closely with Batan in the project to design and construct an experimental reactor. "There are many other areas available for the further partnership, and the signed document gives a solid platform needed to bring these opportunities to life”, he said. -- BERNAMA
