Iran 1st VP Seeks ITU Expertise To Advance IT

Tehran, June 25, IRNA – First Vice-President Es-haq Jahangiri in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday with Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Hamadoun Touré, said Iran wants to benefit from ITU capabilities. Jahangiri said the Iranian government has many plans to help the enhancement of telecommunication technology in the country and seeks assistance from ITU in this regard. Referring to ITU abundant capacity to help the development process of countries, the vice-president said international organizations should not be influenced by big powers, rather, they should be a place for interaction and equally governed by different countries across the world. Telecommunication technology is a field of interest among young Iranian people, Jahangiri said. A main problem facing educated Iranian youth is unemployment, he said, adding, ˈwith the Iranian governmentˈs macro plans to boost telecommunication technology, we hope IT could account for major strides to create jobs.ˈ In the meantime, the ITU chief referred to 150 years of activities of the organization and said, ˈtoday is the era of communications and information and our goal is to provide proper access to information for all the people.ˈ Hamadoun Touré said the ground is prepared to render the best services to people around the world through interaction and cooperation./end
