Iran breaks up monopoly on some recombinant drugs

TEHRAN, May. 03 (MNA) – Deputy for supervision and planning for food and drug administration has said Iran succeeded in breaking up the monopoly of some developed countries on a number of recombinant drugs. Dr. Akbar Abdollahi-Asl noted that Iran is the only country besides the original producer that has been able to synthesize the recombinant production of blood clotting factor VII. “As such, Iran’s pharmaceutical support has been able to participate in a number of international tenders and even win some of them,” he said. Maintaining that the country’s pharmaceutical system has paid the most service to the health care system in terms of self-sufficiency, he added “most of the pharmaceutical products including those related to cardiovascular diseases, digestive diseases, and accidents are provided through domestic productions.” In February 2015, Iran unveiled its first indigenous tubular centrifuge to accelerate production of recombinant medicines, including vaccines. Iran has produced a wide range of pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of cancer, diabetes, infection and depression. The Islamic Republic is the first country in the East Mediterranean region which has the technical and scientific capability to export vaccines to various world countries.
