Isfahan Hosts Regional Scientific Center

Tehran, June 30, IRNA - A regional center has been established in Isfahan University of Technology to promote scientific cooperation between Iran and Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. The center has been set up following a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was signed between Iranˈs Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana and Fernando Quevedo Rodríguez, a Guatemalan physicist and director of ICTP, in May. Iranian university students and investigators can participate in the scientific activities of ICTP. Isfahan University of Technology has been placed on the list of the worldˈs top 100 universities under 50 years old in 2014. ICTP is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences that operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian government, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and International Atomic Energy Agency. For more than 45 years, ICTP has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world. In 2014, ICTP will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. Founded in 1964 by the late Pakistani Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP alumni serve as professors at major universities, chairpersons of academic departments, directors of research centers and ministers of science and technology in developing countries, according to Tuesday issue of Iran Daily./end
