Malaysia Ranked 8th In Asia-Pacific In ICT Development Index 2015 - MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia improved its ranking to 8th position from 9th place last year in the Asia-Pacific region in the ICT Development Index (IDI) 2015, according to the Measuring the Information Society Report annual report. The report was issued by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Tuesday at the 13th Telecomunications/Symposium on ICT Indicators which is taking place in Hiroshima. Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Strategic Communications Division senior director Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman said the high subscription rate for broadband in the country contributed to the improved ranking. “This trend is expected to continue for the next 12 months in view of more people using ‘on-the-go’ content and undertaking transactions using their smartphones," he said in a statement here Tuesday. According to the report, at the global level, Malaysia is now ranked 64th out of 167 economies, up seven places from the 71st position last year. -- BERNAMA
