MHTC To Promote Malaysia As Asia's Fertility Hub

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) aims to position Malaysia as Asia’s fertility hub by the year 2020. According to MHTC, this is due to the fact that Malaysia is fast becoming a popular destination for healthcare travellers from China, particularly for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). A further impetus is the 65 per cent average clinical pregnancy rate for In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) – a type of ART – in Malaysia compared to the global average of 50 per cent. Chief executive officer of MHTC, Sherene Azli, said: "With the strength that we have in the higher success rate in IVF, backed by the increased and constant demand for the services in this region, we started promoting Malaysia as the fertility hub for the region. “We have first-class healthcare technology in our facilities but most importantly, we have the expertise to be operating it and to be optimising it," added Sherene when met by Bernama during the dinner of Malaysia International Scientific Congress of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (MISCOG) 2018, here, recently. The conference was organised by the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia. Among those at the conference were delegates from China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, and Myanmar, who were keen to explore the advancement of Malaysia’s fertility industry. A three-day familiarisation trip to selected Malaysian fertility clinics was organised by MHTC for the delegates as part of its initiatives to showcase the country’s healthcare capacity to be positioned as a fertility hub. Among the facilities visited were MHTC member hospitals such as TMC Fertility Centre, Alpha Fertility Centre, Sunfert International Fertility Centre, Fertility Associates, Prince Court Medical Centre, and KL Fertility Centre. -- BERNAMA
