Qatar Scientific Club Launches "Solutions Makers Challenge" Scientific Competition

Doha, September 27 (QNA) - The Section of Oasis of Manufacturers and Innovators at the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) launched a scientific competition titled "solutions makers challenge", in collaboration with the young adults' section at Qatar National Library which intended to attain innovative solutions through escorting them in a journey of the scientific thinking and engineering design then implementation the phases of this type of challenge. The competition targeted the students of preparatory and secondary schools, where the attendees had generated innovative thoughts to solve a certain problem and would be augmented by essential skills, tools and resources required by them to further upgrade their solutions. The students were subjected to numerous preliminary sessions to get familiarized with design thinking. Afterward, came the phase of thinking and planning through setting a scientific and determined approach then entered into the phase of implementing the prototype, and came the phase of building and testing to attain the phase of evaluating these models, provided that such phases should continue during the whole period of September, where the projects laid out at the end of the challenge will be evaluated based on clear and determined criteria. In addition, 19 students (male & female) from five scientific, professional and international schools participated in the event, including Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School, American School of Doha, Qatar Academy Doha (QAD), Doha College and Qatar Academy for Science and Technology (QAST). In this regard, Head of the Oasis of Manufacturers at the Qatar Scientific Club Eng. Salman Ghanem Al Sulaiti clarified that such competition intended to train the students on the methods of dealing with the problems they encounter to be scientifically and methodically solved through pursuing a number of sequential steps that would ultimately lead to laying out a proposal for the problem, stating that one problem could have more than one solution, which precipitates differentiating between these solutions via several criteria, including the easy application of the solution, the economic cost of the project and compliance with the security and safety standards. He indicated that the whole essential support and technical knowledge were offered, in addition to providing the training halls equipped with the essential devices to further implement any prototype such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and electronic measuring devices.
